Four minutes is a block, not eight beeps

A classic Tabata is eight rounds of 20 seconds of work and 10 seconds of rest, which adds up to four minutes. This 4 minute timer times that whole block. It does not beep at each 20 and 10. If you need those inner beeps, count them, use an interval app, or mark them with the stopwatch while this page holds the outer limit. Do not pretend a single chime at the end is a full interval timer.

Four minutes is also a honest size for a drill you keep skipping: a language prompt, a scale, a set of mobility, a reply you have been rewriting. It is long enough to begin and short enough that you cannot hide inside it. The 3 minute timer and the 5 minute timer are the neighbors if four is slightly off.

Start only after the setup is done

The dial opens at 04:00. Gather the equipment before Start. A Tabata that includes thirty seconds of looking for a mat is not the workout you wrote down. Test sound if you will be breathing hard. Space starts and pauses, R resets to four minutes unless you edited the fields, and F fills the screen so you can see it from the floor.

Cooking times of “about four minutes” still belong to the recipe. Vegetables, eggs, and noodles vary. Use the chime as the moment you check, not as proof that the food is done. For a date on the calendar rather than a length, the countdown is the other tool. Nothing on this page is uploaded.

  • Tabata: this page ends the four minutes. You still track 20s and 10s.
  • Stop if form breaks. The timer will not do that for you.
  • Write the task in one line before you press Start.
  • Do not stack silent four-minute blocks without a break you chose.

A short block you can repeat on purpose

Restart runs another four minutes. That is a second set, not an accident. If you wanted a ten-minute session, open the 10 minute timer instead of hoping you will remember to restart. Reload the page and it is 04:00 again. The running time is not stored.

Common questions

Does this 4 minute timer beep every 20 seconds?

No. It rings once, at the end of four minutes. A Tabata’s inner intervals are yours to count.

Is Tabata always four minutes?

The original protocol people cite is 4 minutes of 20 seconds on and 10 seconds off. Your program may differ.

Can I change it to 3:30 before starting?

Yes. Edit the fields, then Start. This address still opens at 4:00 next time.

Will the alarm play in another tab?

It can, if the computer stays awake and the tab is not muted. Sleep will silence it.
