A half hour is a promise
A 30 minute timer is what people mean by a half-hour meeting, a lunch-break workout, or a single episode of attention. It fails when the timer starts late. If the meeting is 2:00 to 2:30, press Start at 2:00, not at 2:07 after the small talk, unless you have agreed the small talk is inside the half hour. The dial opens at 30:00 so you are not typing it under pressure.
Food still follows the package. Some rice and some sheet-pan recipes use about thirty minutes, and many do not. The chime means look, stir, or take the pan out only if the recipe said so. A timer is not a thermometer. For a shorter check, the 10 minute timer or 15 minute timer may match the step better.
Half an hour is too long to leave unnamed
Before Start, write the agenda in one or two lines. A 30 minute timer labeled “catch up” will fill itself with whatever is loudest. The 25 minute timer is slightly stricter if you want a focus block with a margin before the next meeting. The 45 minute timer is the next common class-period length. The 1 hour timer is a different commitment. Do not restart this page twice and call it a plan.
The countdown uses the finish time, so another tab does not freeze it while the computer is awake. Test sound if you will be across the room. Space pauses, R resets, F is fullscreen. A phone that locks may drop the alarm. Keep it awake if the half hour matters. Nothing you type is uploaded, and a reload returns to 30:00.
- Meetings: the last two minutes are for the decision, not a new topic.
- Workouts: stop if form goes. The clock is not a coach.
- Study: one packet of work, then a real stop.
- Kitchen: confirm doneness. Do not trust the zero by itself.
Half an hour is not “until Friday”
Days and dates belong on days between dates and the countdown. A 30 minute timer is for this sitting. If you do not know whether the task is half an hour, measure it once with the stopwatch. Then come back here only if thirty was the right promise. The online timer is the place for 30 minutes plus a handful of seconds.
